Aiden Kim Feltkamp
Aiden Kim Feltkamp (they/he) champions new music as a trans nonbinary librettist, performer, and educator. Before beginning their medical transition, they performed as a mezzo-soprano. Most notably, they created the role of Elizabeth in Sweets by Kate by Griffin Candey and reprised it in the NY Premiere at the historic Stonewall Inn. Other roles include Slender (Sir John in Love), Hansel (Hansel and Gretel), Prince Orlofsky (Die Fledermaus), Ottavia (L’incoronazione di Poppea), and Cherubino (Le Nozze di Figaro). They received degrees from the Bard College Conservatory of Music in Dawn Upshaw's Graduate Vocal Arts Program and Hofstra University.
Mx. Feltkamp writes to explore main characters who live on the margins and open our capacity for empathy by telling stories through a yet-unencountered lens. This year, their opera libretti and art songs will premiere in NYC, Chicago, Albany, and Austin. As a diversity expert, they’ve consulted for Opera America, Northwestern, Johnson & Johnson, and others. They’ve served on panels about inclusion hosted by the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, New Music Gathering, and the New York Opera Alliance.
