Gala Fortuna The Goddess Fortuna is our muse for our season opener, Gala Fortuna. Drawing inspiration from Fortuna, who is the personification of luck and fate, we start our journey with Verdi’s bold overture to his opera ‘La forza del destino’ setting the stage for Paul Leavitt’s ethereal Lux Aeterna conducted by the composer. Before a brief intermission, we're joined by a pantheon of vocalists for selections from Bizet’s sultry—and seductive--‘Carmen’. With Fortuna’s capriciousness of life, our selections will mirror the ebb and flow of our destiny’s path. Ola Gjeilo’s Dominion from Dreamweaver and Barber’s Adagio for Strings, Op.11/Agnus Dei reveal the hardships and struggles we must face. Bringing our evening to a spectacular close, we'll perform selections from Orff’s indomitable Carmina Burana. Come mingle with friends, peruse our wonderfully curated silent auction, and see what luck Fortuna has in store for you during this first leg of our adventure...
