#GivingTuesday
This year Litha Symphony will be participating in GivingTuesday and we need your help!

The pandemic has decimated the ability for performing arts organizations to do what they do best—perform. Because of this, organizations like Litha are struggling. Your generosity and support is the best way we can make it through until we're able to perform again.

Join us all day long on December 1 as we highlight why music in our communities matters. Across our social media we'll be sharing our stories, past events, and ways you can show your support for our organization's mission of providing accessible music to the communities we serve.

What is Giving Tuesday?

GivingTuesday is a global generosity movement, unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world. GivingTuesday emphasizes opportunities to give back to communities and causes in safe ways that allow for social connection and kindness even while practicing physical distancing.

GivingTuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. Over the past seven years, it has grown into a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.

Whether it’s making someone smile, helping a neighbor or stranger out, showing up for an issue or people we care about, or giving some of what we have to those who need our help, every act of generosity counts and everyone has something to give.

At a time when we are all experiencing the pandemic, generosity is what brings people of all races, faiths, and political views together across the globe. Generosity gives everyone the power to make a positive change in the lives of others and is a fundamental value anyone can act on.

How your contributions help:

Litha Symphony is quite unique. Currently, our performance season is only during the summer months. This provides us with a unique opportunity to create an ensemble with musicians from a wide array of backgrounds—from teachers and students, to professional musicians and hobbyists.

From June through August, we bring the best in classical repertoire to life for our community. Most other ensembles are on break during this time, which opens up the opportunity to fill the summer with accessible classical performances where there would normally be none.

Of course, putting on our season is no easy task. The upfront costs associated with any given performance are steadily on the rise year after year. We rely solely on ticket sales and the generosity of our donors. That funding goes towards renting the rehearsal and performance space, renting music, hiring guest conductors and soloist, and so on.
With your contribution, we're able to expand our programming and offer more opportunities to aspiring young musicians, conductors, and composers. We're able to expand our symphonic literature to include more modern and contemporary compositions representing a larger, more eclectic and diverse pool of composers.

As with any community organization, there are many facets involved with making sure we run smoothly and with the community's interests in mind. Funding simply isn't enough. We are always working towards building better relationships with our community, our musicians, and our donors. Many of our musicians not only volunteer their musical talents, but their skills at writing, catering, accounting, etc.
How the pandemic is shaping the future.

With the pandemic raging ever on, performing groups have been forced to get a little—inventive. Experts are now predicting that it will take quite a while before we're able to see full audiences and normal performances again. What are we to do?

From digital events and concerts to outdoor pop-up live streams, we have been introduced to a wide array of socially distant means of performing over the past few months. Working with videographers and sound engineers, we could delve into broadcasting our concerts to a broader digital audience even after the pandemic is over.

Your donation will go a long way for us to experiment with these new strategies to provide even more opportunities to safely share our music with the community. The door has been opened to so many new possibilities!
